Nutritional Therapy

If you find yourself plagued with niggling ailments and annoyances that aren't being helped by medication or other means, it might be time to turn to your diet. That's where I come in to guide you through the tricky world of nutrition and help you fight these conditions with effective and reliable medicine that we seem to have long forgotten or no longer take seriously: food.

Nutritional therapy can help to target ailments such as:

  • Skin problems including acne, eczema & psoriasis

  • Digestive issues including IBS

  • Fatigue and lack of energy

  • Headache & migraine

  • Heart disease

  • High blood pressure

  • Intolerances and allergies

  • Diabetes

  • Depression

  • PMS, PCOS and menopause

  • Joint and bone issues

  • Arthritis

  • Weight management

  • Cancer prevention and support during treatment and recovery.

It's easier than ever to access high-calorie foods. This has naturally lead to a rise in the amount of obesity and weight-related issues in affluent countries. This, in turn, has lead to the media, food gurus and the general public becoming more focused on macro-nutrients: fats, carbohydrates and protein; as well as calories. While this is certainly healthy and being aware of what goes into your body is indeed a very good thing, it leaves out 50% of the picture. Micronutrients: vitamins and minerals - and their vital role in the maintenance and health of our bodies. So, although our access to foods and our understanding of what's in them has increased, we're still rarely eating the right ones.

Most people don't think much about the micronutrients in their foods and whether they're eating a varied enough diet. A lot of people think that these nutrients are non-vital, allowing convenient and nutrient-void foods to take the lead. However, the reality is that a lack of some of these nutrients can lead to anything from skin conditions, to death as the body cannot cope with the lack of vital fuel.

Most doctors do not get adequate training on the topic of nutrition and some of the medications that they prescribe can actually make these deficiencies worse by blocking the body's ability to absorb nutrients. This can then cause more side effects. These side effects are then treated with more medication and the cycle continues.

That's not to say that all medication is bad, quite the opposite. It definitely has a big place in the world and saves countless lives every day. Nutritional therapy is not a replacement for medical intervention! Sometimes, however, medical professionals are quick to prescribe medications when something as simple as a change in diet could genuinely fix the issue, and that's where I come in!

As a nutritional therapist it is my job to work with you to detect deficiencies in your diet and combat these as necessary by prescribing you natural foods and supplements (I do not sell these myself through some dodgy MLM scheme either)! Again, this is not a complete replacement for medication if you have a serious medical issue, it's to try to solve those smaller issues that medication just isn't helping.

The Process

Before the consultation takes place, I will ask you to keep a 4 day food diary to track your exact eating habits, eating as you usually would. You will then come in for a consultation to talk about your food habits and have an assessment to detect any potential deficiencies.  After your assessment, I will give you advice on your diet based on your results. This will include being given food prescriptions as well as shopping list and recipe ideas. I will then ask you to track your eating habits and ailments to see if you've found any improvement. It is then advised that you come back for another session to discuss your progress, make amendments to your personalised plan as needed, and if necessary, be given advice for next steps.

You will be required to keep a 3 day food log before your appointment. In the session, we will discuss your food habits and ailments, and you will be assessed to detect a...
